O beloved Lord,
I remember how You placed Your precious life
on the cross for my deliverance from suffering.

1.
I was the one who sinned,
yet You became the One who bore the curse.
To remove my suffering,
the wrath of God fell upon You.

2.
Because we humans had become subject to death
and objects of God's righteous judgment,
You became human, O Son of God,
to give us life.

3.
When this mortal person died with You on the cross,
You gave me new life
through Your own death.

4.
Your faithful followers placed You
in a new tomb.
Your burial became a true picture
of the burial that would one day be mine.

5.
But You conquered death
and became the beginning of the resurrection.
You will also raise me to life
together with You.

6.
You ascended to heaven
and now dwell at the right hand of the Father.
And because of this,
I too have the blessed hope of being there with You.

7.
The tomb is a picture for me,
and the water of baptism
beautifully symbolizes both burial
and resurrection.
