Meaning:

1
Who could find a wife like this—
a Bride purchased by the holy blood
of the Son of God, her heavenly Bridegroom?
Her worth is far greater than precious pearls!
Her beloved trusts her completely,
and she brings him great blessing.
She never does him harm, but only good,
all the days of her life.
She gathers wool and flax
and skillfully works with her hands.
Praise the Church!
Proclaim a new song!
2
She is like a merchant ship,
bringing the treasures of heaven to the earth,
bringing provisions from distant lands
and distributing them to the people.
Before dawn she rises
and gives food to everyone in her household.
With the fruit of her labor
she acquires a field and makes it her own.
She girds herself with strength
and makes her arms strong for her work.
Praise the Church!
Proclaim a new song!
3
Even when her work is small,
she remembers the Lord who gives the harvest
and knows in her heart that her labor is worthwhile.
She does not allow her lamp to go out,
even through the night;
it continues to shine brightly.
She reaches out her hands to her work
and grasps the tools of her labor.
She is exceedingly wise and diligent.
She opens her hands with compassion
to those who are poor and needy.
Praise the Church!
Proclaim a new song!
4
She has no fear of the cold winter,
for everyone in her household
is warmly clothed in scarlet garments.
She makes beautiful coverings and rugs;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Her husband is honored and well known
among the elders of the land.
She makes and sells fine linen garments
and beautiful sashes for others.
Strength and dignity are her clothing;
she is clothed with glory and honor.
Praise the Church!
Proclaim a new song!
5
She smiles when she thinks about the future,
because she has no fear of what is to come.
When she opens her mouth,
she speaks with wisdom,
and loving instruction is upon her tongue.
She carefully watches over everyone in her household.
She never spends her days in idleness;
she is always diligent in her work.
Because of this, her children rise up
and call her greatly blessed.
Praise the Church!
Proclaim a new song!
6
My beloved, may you describe your Bride
in this same way:
Though many women may be strong and capable,
you surpass them all.
Charm is deceptive,
and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears God
is worthy of praise.
Let her be honored for the fruit of her hands;
let her works bring her praise
before everyone.
Praise the Church!
Proclaim a new song!
