Meaning:
1. I can already feel my voice rising
to sing the eternal song of victory.
My heart longs to praise the Lord.
Even though Egypt may be covered in darkness,
there will be no delay—
the day will come very soon.
2. Sailors crossing the sea without seeing land
take courage when they see birds flying overhead,
because they know land must be near.
In the same way, when we see the unmistakable signs
that have been foretold,
we can be certain that His coming is near—
very near, without delay.
3. The armies of heaven are giving clear signs,
bearing witness to this glorious event.
The disorder and wickedness of this sinful world
are becoming evident everywhere.
These things themselves are signs
that His coming is approaching.
4. The earth has been under the curse for so long.
The glory of mighty Rome is being heard everywhere.
Famine, plague, and war—
all these things will come.
They are signs pointing toward
the coming of glorious Immanuel.
5. The drought in the forests is beginning to disappear;
the rain is falling,
and the land is becoming fruitful again.
People everywhere are making preparations,
waiting to see the feet of the Lord
upon the glorious Mount of Olives.
6. The day of redemption for the Jews is drawing near,
and the time of the Gentiles is approaching its fulfillment.
People are returning to settle in Jerusalem,
and their strength is growing
in opposition to the ruling powers.
7. While the godless world rushes deeper into sin and turmoil,
the holy ones will bow at the feet of the Lord.
The saints will leave this world
singing eternal songs of praise.
The devil's long hostility will come to an end,
and reproach and suffering will disappear.
8. Therefore, O God,
these signs You have given are warnings of what is coming.
Apart from the coming of the Lord,
there is no other true hope.
Jesus, the Savior who came to redeem this world,
is my only refuge.
