When will I see my heavenly home, that dwelling of perfect joy?
I long to leave behind this lowly world
And this frail body that has brought me so much sorrow.
1
Every day I remain on this earth,
Living apart from the Lord,
And I feel more and more clearly that I do not truly belong here.
I long for the veil to be lifted
And for the glorious light of that heavenly city to shine before me.
I long to see that beautiful home.
2
In that divine city, filled and radiant with the glory of God,
The power of darkness will have no place.
All the nations will walk forever
In the beautiful light of that city.
3
It is a city untouched by sin,
Where holy people will dwell.
They will leave behind the burdens of this earthly life
And enter into perfect rest.
The weapons of hatred and hostility
Will never be able to disturb
The eternal joy of that place.
4
There will be no tears there;
Not even the sight of anything impure.
There will be no wickedness
And no one corrupted by selfish desires.
In this city that gives perfect joy,
Those who enter will have no thought of sorrow.
5
Every sickness will disappear,
And we will receive glorious, renewed bodies.
Death will be completely gone,
And I will receive eternal life.
Day after day I will praise God the Father
And dwell forever in His presence.
