1
O my soul, the birds have awakened
And are singing their songs.
You too, awake and rise,
And sing praises to Jesus, your Lord.
2
O my soul, when you remember
How the Most High watches over you,
How can you remain asleep
Through the early morning?
3
Even the animals have awakened,
Yet you remain lying down.
O my soul, do not sleep on,
Unmindful and less alert than the animals.
4
Hear the sound of the birds
Singing from the branches of the trees.
As soon as your sleep is gone,
Wake up and praise your Lord.
5
Remember how Jesus, the Lord,
Rose early in the morning
And went alone into the wilderness
To pray.
6
Remember that morning
When Jesus stood before Pilate,
Quiet and innocent,
Like a lamb.
7
Remember Peter,
Who denied his Lord.
Early that morning,
He went outside, overcome with deep sorrow,
And wept bitterly.
8
Mary's heart was broken
When she could not find Jesus that morning.
O my soul, why did she weep?
Do you have that same depth of love for Him?
