1. This world is all vanity—
indeed, vanity upon vanity.
The body, prosperity,
and every material gain are all temporary and vain.

2. Just as we came into this world with nothing,
so we will leave it with nothing.
We must leave behind
all the wealth and prosperity of this earthly life.

3. Parents, brothers and sisters,
wife and children,
and even our honored and beloved friends—
all are part of this passing world.

4. Grain and material possessions,
wealth, magnificent shops and mansions,
and even the body that has gained fame and honor—
all will eventually become nothing
and pass away.

5. Put away these vain thoughts
and turn your heart to Jesus, who truly matters.
If you serve Him with courage and devotion,
all the vanity of this world
will lose its hold on you
