Meaning:

1. In Christ, the Law has come to its end;
its purpose was fulfilled at the cross.
He Himself carried our sins
and bore the curse that belonged to us.

Through one sacrifice He brought us salvation;
through that one sacrifice the punishment was finished.
In Jesus, the crucified Mediator,
we have received the privilege of becoming God’s children.

2. “Children of God”—what a precious name!
Through the Son, we have received
a heavenly position and inheritance.
This is not something we receive merely by human descent,
but through new birth from above
and through the power that comes from heaven.

3. Wherever the flesh rules,
there the flesh is brought low.
A person may desire to do what is good,
yet end up doing the very evil they do not want to do.

4. We have died to the Law
and have been raised with Jesus.
Clothed with Christ,
God has called us to live by the Holy Spirit.

5. Oh, how burdensome the service under Moses can be!
But what joy there is in serving Jesus!
It is the divine freedom
in which the flesh no longer rules over the Spirit.

6. We do not work in order to earn salvation;
rather, salvation has been freely given to us.
God Himself works within us
to accomplish what is pleasing to Him.
Blessed is the person who lives in this truth.

7. The work we accomplish—God accomplishes it.
What is brought to completion—God brings to completion.
He is everything in everyone;
everything we have is a gift of His grace.
