Blessed are you when people falsely accuse you
and speak all kinds of evil against you
because of the Lord's name.
You are truly blessed.

Blessed are those who are poor in spirit,
for they have no need to worry.
The kingdom of heaven
belongs to them forever.

Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will receive comfort.
They will find healing and consolation
in the presence of the true Lord.
4.
Blessed are the gentle and humble,
for they are truly blessed.
They will inherit the earth
and live upon it as their inheritance.
5.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied with righteousness
because of the Righteous One.
6.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will receive mercy.
The Lord, their protector, will watch over them;
they need not carry even the slightest burden.
7.
Blessed are those whose hearts are pure,
for they have attained true spiritual purity.
If they live in devotion,
they will continually behold the Holy One.
8.
Blessed are those who make peace,
for they will be called
the children of the Almighty God.
9.
Rejoice, you who suffer persecution for the sake of righteousness,
for the kingdom of God
is your blessed and eternal inheritance.
