Meaning:

The Lord is our refuge, the everlasting God.
Yet human life on earth fades away
like a flower that shines in the morning and withers by evening.

1.
God formed humanity from the dust
and intended us to live joyfully on the earth.
But because of sin, we became mortal,
and eventually return to the dust from which we came.

2.
Whether someone is strong, devout, or powerful,
whether they are a king or ruler,
everyone comes into this world with tears,
passes away quickly, and enters eternity.

3.
Teach us to recognize how few our days are,
for we do not know when our final day will come.
Give us wisdom
and awaken in us a deep desire to follow Your ways.

4.
Childhood and youth quickly pass away,
and even our happiest days may suddenly come to an end.
O God, have mercy on us
and help us live our lives in a way that is truly blessed.

5.
Have compassion on us, Your needy children,
especially when our burdens become heavy.
Satisfy us with Your goodness and mercy,
so that we may praise You throughout all our days.

6.
Someone we see today may be gone tomorrow;
nothing on this earth is permanent.
When You call us, O God, who can know the hour?
May we find our eternal rest in Your presence.

7.
We came into this world with nothing,
and we will leave this earth with nothing.
But the good we have done for the Lord
will follow us into eternity.

8.
Until the sound of the trumpet,
this world groans under suffering and sorrow.
O God, comfort us through Your Word
and let us receive Your peace and consolation.
