Meaning:

O glorious figure I see upon the cross at Calvary!
You are the golden lamp
That drives away the darkness of sin.
What mercy is this!
You shed Your own precious blood
And willingly embraced death for me.

1.
You became my companion and friend,
Yet You were despised and rejected by others.
You chose to stand beside me,
Even when I was helpless,
Without anyone to support or defend me.

2.
Those feet that walked about doing good
Were pierced by cruel nails.
Was there truly no other way
To make my steps right
And turn me from my sinful path?

3.
I see the nails driven through Your hands,
Your palms stained with blood.
As I look upon Your wounds,
I understand that You endured this
To cleanse me from the great corruption
Of my sinful actions.

4.
Your head was wounded by the crown of thorns,
And precious blood flowed down Your face.
O Savior, You willingly bore upon Yourself
All the evil and sin that filled my thoughts.

5.
The great wooden cross became the altar,
And the Lord of heaven became the sacrifice.
The One who hung upon that tree
Was counted as cursed,
Just as the Scriptures had foretold.
