How long, O Lord, how much longer must I wait?
When will I see You coming to meet me, my Lord?
1
It is not easy even to think about this suffering;
it is plainly too hard for us to endure.
What hope do the helpless have
if not Your support?
What other assurance is there for us?
2
From all this great suffering, sorrow,
and distress, come quickly, Lord.
Though You have promised that You will come
to gather Your little Church to Yourself,
how long must we wait?
3
You offered Your holy body as a sacrifice
to bring relief from my suffering.
What astonishing love—
You did not turn away from death on the cross,
but willingly gave Yourself for me.
4
My heart is constantly troubled
by thoughts that bring me no peace.
When my distress becomes overwhelming,
speak words of comfort to me
and keep me safe.
5
Establish Your holy kingdom upon the earth.
Destroy the enemies who oppose You.
Then let us dwell forever
in the holy city of Salem,
and may You reign there eternally.
