1. Always stay awake, O follower of Christ.
Continually put on the strength of the Lord.
When weariness, heaviness, and spiritual sleep
begin to spread over your heart,
the enemy will seize the opportunity.
So stay awake at all times,
O follower of Christ,
and continually put on the Lord’s strength.

2. Satan will come roaring like a lion.
He will approach you
with the pleasures and attractions of this world.
He will even disguise himself
as an angel of God,
without shame,
in order to deceive you.

3. Always stay awake
and be a faithful servant.
Continually watch and pray before the Lord,
seeking to know His commands.
Understand His will
and obey it without delay.

4. Always stay awake,
living as a stranger in this world.
Prepare yourself for the journey to heaven.
Let the lamp of God’s Word
continue to burn brightly,
and let the song of salvation
continue to sound.

5. Always stay awake,
for the night will soon come to an end
when Christ returns.
Can you not already see
the dawn appearing before your eyes?
Are you ready to stand
before the Lord?
