1.
O Rock that was cleft for me,
Let this wretched sinner hide and dwell in You.
From Your wounded side, pierced by the spear,
Flowed precious blood and cleansing water.
Wash away completely
The terrible guilt and power of my sin,
And grant me complete cleansing.
2.
To fulfill the holy commandments of God
Is impossible for me, a sinful servant.
Even if I pursue devotion and self-denial continually,
Even if I shed countless tears without stopping,
None of these can atone for even a single sin.
Nothing can bring forgiveness—
You alone can save me.
3.
I come with nothing in my hands;
Lord, I take refuge in Your cross.
I come naked—clothe me with Your righteousness.
I am a perishing sinner,
Yet I wait upon Your grace.
I am unclean; wash me clean.
Give me healing and life,
My beloved Savior!
4.
While I still have breath in this earthly life,
And when I leave this world
And journey toward heaven,
When I pass through worlds unknown
And finally stand before You,
Where Your love overflows—
O Rock that was cleft for me,
Let this wretched sinner
Hide and dwell in You.
