Meaning:

1
If my Lord places the cup of sorrow into my hands,
I will gladly receive it and sing, “Hallelujah!”
2
My loving Father will never do anything evil to me.
Even when He disciplines me, He does so because He loves me.
3
When suffering and loss come my way, I become blessed,
For I have become a companion of the Lord who Himself suffered.
4
What can the comforts of this world truly give?
They often bring distress to the soul.
But the blessed life of the spirit grows stronger through suffering.
5
I do not need the glory of life
Or the splendor that the eyes can see.
Like the covering of a tent,
All I need is the mark and color of the cross.
6
What comfort is there within me!
The glorious cherubim are there,
And within the tent is the Shekinah, the radiant presence of God.
7
Devout brothers and sisters are with me like lamps,
The incense of prayer is there,
And upon the table is the bread.
8
Before me, in the courtyard, I see Jesus.
He Himself is the altar,
And He alone is forever my salvation.
9
There is also a bronze basin filled with pure water,
So that I may be refreshed with strength
That is renewed in me day after day.
10
I do not think about the world.
I do not dwell on suffering or loss.
My only longing is this:
When will I finally see my Lord face to face?
