Meaning:
O Lord, O Jesus,
Did You give Your life for me?
Did You die to give eternal life
To us, helpless sinners who were dead in sin?
1.
In the Garden of Gethsemane,
Under the crushing weight of suffering,
You were in deep anguish.
Yet even in Your agony,
You willingly followed the Father’s will.
2.
O King, You were taken before Annas
And put on trial in his palace.
They struck You on the face with their hands,
Mocking and ridiculing You,
Even though You were their King.
3.
Pilate judged You
And handed You over to be crucified.
They placed a crown of thorns upon Your head
And wounded and abused You
In countless ways.
4.
Though You were weak and exhausted,
They forced You to carry
That heavy cross.
Without mercy,
They led You up the hill of Golgotha
To put You to death.
5.
They nailed Your holy hands
To the wooden cross.
Two criminals were crucified beside You,
One on either side,
While You, O Lord,
Hung and died in the middle.
6.
Overcome by terrible thirst,
You were given sour wine to drink.
Even Your clothes were taken from You
And divided among them.
Then Your body was pierced,
And Your precious blood was shed.
7.
Through Your death,
You rescued me from the punishment of hell.
Now, with my heart set on Your glory,
Please give me the grace
To spend the rest of my life
Living for You and honoring Your name.
