Shout for joy to God, our strength;
raise a joyful song to the God of Jacob.
Begin the music with tambourines,
with harps and lyres;
let beautiful melodies resound!
On the days of our festivals,
blow the joyful trumpet.
This is a decree for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
Egypt was the land where we were enslaved,
the place where we heard a language we did not know.
He lifted the burdens from our shoulders
and set our hands free from their labor.
He brought Israel out of Egypt,
and said, “If My people will listen to Me,
do not make for yourselves any foreign god;
do not bow down to any other god.”
Open your mouth wide,
and I will fill it with what you need.
But My people would not listen to Me;
Israel would not submit to Me.
If Israel would only listen to Me,
if they would walk in My ways,
I would quickly defeat their enemies
and turn My hand against their foes.
I would feed them with the finest wheat
and satisfy them with honey from the rock.
I would fill them with abundance and satisfaction;
and their blessedness would endure forever.
