Meaning:
Jesus, O Jesus, blessed Lord Jesus!
Jesus, our Lord—praise and glory to You, O King!
1.
O Jesus, You bring joy into the hearts of Your servants
and remove their sorrow.
You are the beauty of grace!
You were born as a human being
in this perishing world,
and You came as the Lord of glorious light,
shining the true light upon us.
O Jesus, our Lord and King!
2.
You are the One whom thousands upon
thousands of heavenly beings worship,
the greatest among countless hosts.
You took human form to remove the sin of our first parents,
and came to earth as the spotless Lamb,
without deceit or blemish O Jesus, our Lord!
3.
You carried away all the sins of the world.
In the garden of Gethsemane,
You bowed Your head and endured terrible agony.
You suffered deeply in anguish,
Your body covered in sweat,
and Your precious blood flowed from Your body
because of Your compassion for this sinner.
4.
When darkness had fallen and the people came to arrest You,
Peter came near and struck the servant, cutting off his ear.
Yet You mercifully healed him with Your holy hand.
O Lord, You were handed over
into the hands of cruel men;
how could I, such a sinful and hard-hearted person,
receive such mercy from You?
5.
Pilate condemned You to death
and handed You over to be crucified.
After enduring many forms of suffering,
You died upon the cross.
You were placed in a new tomb,
descended into the realm of the dead,
And on the third day You rose again in victory.
6.
When You appeared to Your disciples
for the third time by the shore of the Sea of Galilee,
they had worked throughout the night
but had caught nothing and were exhausted.
You spoke to them and told them to cast their net,
and they drew in the net
filled with a great number of fish.
7.
You who ascended to heaven
to give the Holy Spirit to Your humble disciples,
when You come again in mercy,
look upon me, Your lowly servant,
and give me refuge at Your feet.
In Your compassion, lead me faithfully,
and when my earthly journey is complete,
receive me into the glorious heavenly kingdom.
