You must be born again by the Holy Spirit;
You must receive a new birth—a new life from now on.

Even if you are religious, even if you pray,
Even if you study the Scriptures all your life,

Your sinful nature and way of life must be changed;
You must receive the life that comes from God.

It is not through human wisdom or knowledge
That you can receive this new life,
But through the gracious gift of God from heaven.

The curse that came through the first Adam must be removed;
Through the second Adam, Christ, you must receive life.
