    Ellaayppozhum vaanu thanne stuthichidaam

Meaning:

Remember your Creator while you are young, my dear one,
before the difficult days come upon you
and the years arrive when you no longer take pleasure in life.

1. Before the bright light begins to fade,
and the sky grows dark with clouds,
remember that the beauty and strength of youth
will soon give way to the difficulties of old age.

2. The people who guard the house will tremble,
and those who once were strong will bend with age.
The body will become weak and weary,
and whether one is strong or humble,
everyone will eventually lie down in weakness.

3. In youth, a person may have a full set of strong teeth,
but by the age of forty many may already be gone.
After teeth have fallen out or been removed by a doctor,
only a few may remain,
and even those may no longer be of much use.

4. Those who look through the windows
will gradually lose their sight,
and the doors facing the street will be closed.
The sound of grinding food will grow faint,
and an old person may wake even at the sound of birds.

5. The singers will become weak,
and climbing will become difficult and frightening.
There will be dangers and anxieties along the road.
The almond tree will blossom heavily,
and even the things that once gave strength and energy
will begin to fail.

6. Then the human being will leave this earth
and travel toward the eternal home prepared for him.
Others will carry the news of his death,
and mourners will walk through the streets
singing songs of sorrow.

7. The silver cord will be snapped;
the golden bowl will be broken.
The jar will be shattered at the spring,
and the wheel will break at the well.
The body will return to the dust of the earth,
and the spirit will return to the God who gave it.

8. On that day, every person must give an account
before God's judgment seat
for everything he has done, whether good or evil.
Even the deeds done secretly
will surely come before the King;
nothing can remain hidden from Him.

9. Everything is called “vanity”—
everything in this world eventually passes away.
So develop sound wisdom and discernment,
and break free from the illusion of worldly things.
Let the Sun of Wisdom rise within your heart
and fill your mind with rays of joy,
so that vanity may disappear.

10. Here is the conclusion of everything:
Fear the Lord every day
and obey all His commandments.
Then we will live without sorrow
in the better world to come,
and praise Him forever.
