The Lord Jesus went up to heaven,
Yes, the Lord Jesus went up to heaven.
From the Mount of Olives He lifted up His hands
And ascended while His disciples stood
Looking up toward heaven.
1
He came down from heaven and became human,
Living among us and shining as our Teacher.
He taught His disciples and did good,
Preaching and proclaiming the Gospel.
For those living on earth He shed His blood,
Died, conquered death, and rose again.
On the fortieth day He left the earth
And ascended in glorious victory.
2
According to the order of Melchizedek,
He entered into His priestly ministry,
Bearing His own precious blood before God.
As the great High Priest, He entered the holy place in heaven
To make full atonement for all the sins of His people.
3
For those who believe in Him,
He has gone to prepare an eternal dwelling place.
He will remain with His people forever,
And He has promised to pour out the Holy Spirit upon them.
Seated at the right hand of the Most High,
He intercedes for His own,
Granting them freedom and salvation.
4
While the heavenly hosts sang,
“Holy, holy is the Lord,”
The disciples looked toward heaven,
Their faces shining with His divine presence.
As the angels stood as witnesses,
And the sins of humanity were being dealt with,
He disappeared from their sight
And was hidden by a cloud in heaven.
5
He brings the glory of the Most High God,
Rays shining like precious jewels,
And golden streets gleaming like polished glass.
He brings the everlasting inheritance,
Unending joy, and the golden Jerusalem,
And in gladness welcomes His people
To joyful Zion forever.
