When we remember the suffering of Babylonian captivity,
There seems to be no end to its sorrow.

O people of God, once shining in glory,
You had become slaves in a foreign land.

Those who once sang joyful songs
Could no longer play their harps or sing.
Overwhelmed with grief, remembering Zion,
They sat and wept endlessly,
Their eyes filled with tears.

The beauty of the Temple
And its sacred worship were lost.
There were no more sacrifices
Or sacrificial animals.
The Temple had been burned
And reduced to ashes.

Their language had changed,
And they could no longer understand the Scriptures.
Their ability to comprehend God's Word
Had almost disappeared.
In the confusion of Babylon,
Their speech and understanding
Had become completely distorted.

Even the grapes and delicious fruits
Were no longer available to them
In the land of their captivity.
They could not taste the delicious food
Of their own homeland—
Not even in their thoughts.

Those who had once lived as masters
In their own land
Had now become slaves, forced to labor.
Those who once gave orders
Now had to obey the commands of others
And wait for their instructions.

Those whose eyes had once shone with joy
And whose faces had once been beautiful
Were now in a foreign land,
Shedding tears until their eyes
Became sunken with sorrow.

Thousands of God's people
Who had once served the living God
Were now seen bowing
Before the idol of Bel.
What a heartbreaking sight this was!

They had forgotten God's commandments,
Pure and clear like crystal.
Instead, their hearts were troubled
By the teachings and schemes
Of false priests.

The meaningful pattern of true worship
Had been completely distorted.
Oh, what a tragedy!
In the land of captivity,
A materialistic and empty form of worship
Had taken its place.
